Decommissioning of MILF weaponry, combatants underway

MAASIM, Sarangani (September 28, 2020) – Jennifer Kamid (extreme right, standing), Sulong Kapayapaan’s Kalinaw project manager, leads the presentation of the Independent Decommissioning Body (IDB) during its evaluation at Madrasah Daliao Al Islamie in Barangay Daliao on September 23. Kamid introduced the IDB and its aspiration of creating an enduring peace in the Bangsamoro to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) combatants in the area. Kamid said “decommissioning is the commitment of the MILF for the envisioned peaceful community with combatants enjoying the opportunity of civilian life.” Although independent in nature, the IDB coordinates to both the government of the Philippines and the MILF peace implementing panels. In 2017, the IDB started conducting its series of site surveys all over Mindanao. It was also presented to the combatants the advantages of going through the decommissioning process which includes social protection, capacity development, livelihood and employment and provision of infrastructure projects.
