IDB prepares decommissioning process of MILF weaponry, combatants

ALABEL, Sarangani (September 28, 2020) – Jennifer Kamid (extreme right), Sulong Kapayapaan’s Kalinaw project manager, and Engr. Gerald Faciol (2nd from right), assistant provincial administrator for operations, talk with the members and staff of the Independent Decommissioning Body (IDB) during their evaluation on September 23 at the Kasfala Hall. The IDB is a mechanism established by the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) negotiating panels to oversee the decommissioning process of the MILF weaponry and combatants. It was also a key component of the larger normalization program in accordance with the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro. The objectives of the IDB were presented to the MILF combatants in some identified areas in the towns of Malapatan and Maasim where they conducted the evaluation. The IDB aims to provide social protection, capacity development, livelihood and employment and infrastructure projects to the combatants who will undergo the decommissioning process.
