Greenfield hosts Season-Long Farmers’ Field School

MAITUM, Sarangani (January 27, 2021) – Municipal Agriculturist Noel Naungayan (left) congratulates Aurea Evans, farmer leader of Greenfield in Barangay Wali, during the graduation ceremony of the Season-Long Farmers’ Field School (FFS) on Organic Farming Production on January 26 at Greenfield. The FFS is a 16-week training which aims to build farmers’ capacity to analyze their production systems, identify problems, test possible solutions and eventually encourage other farmers to adopt the practices most suitable to their farming systems. In his speech, Naungayan thanked Mr. and Mrs. Evans for extending their support by letting the project use their land as an “experimental area”. “Actually, ang hiningi lang namin is only an experimental area but they extended it sa kalahating hectare, where a portion was intended for the land preparation and the other one was for the conduct of the feeding program for the senior citizens,” he added. During the ceremony, Ruben Balanag (center), municipal administrator, was also one of the individuals who distributed the certificates to the participants along with Jonathan Duhaylungsod, provincial agriculturist, and Mercidita Aglibot, high-value crops development program focal person of the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) - Department of Agriculture (DA) XII. There was a total of 21 participants who finished the FFS. The participants were mostly composed of housewives, young farmers, out of school youth, and vegetable growers.
