Sargen swine industry protected; ASF under control in JAS

ALABEL, Sarangani (August 5, 2020) – Glan Mayor Vivien Yap (right) and Jose Abad Santos (JAS) Mayor Jason John Joyce (left) talk during the Gracia Care Educational TV Installation and Presentation on August 4 at the Capitol gymnasium. In the event, Joyce gave an update on the African Swine Fever (ASF) that is currently affecting some parts of the province of Davao Occidental. The municipalities of JAS and Glan are the border towns of Davao Occidental and Sarangani Province. “Kami ni Mayor Yap together with your Governor ay nag-uusap na kung ano yung pwedeng gawin para hindi lalong kumalat yung ASF.” He added, “meron na po tayong Executive Order na naipalabas disallowing the entry of our live hogs and pork products papunta sa Sarangani and sa Gensan, at the same time naglagay na din po tayo ng footbath sa National Highway para ma-disinfect yung mga dumadaang mga vehicles”. Joyce also disclosed that in JAS there are already five barangays who have culled live hogs infected by the ASF, “so we are confident na mawawala na yung ASF sa amin at ngayon yung concentration natin is hindi kumalat dito sa Sarangani kasi mas malaki po yung swine industry dito”. On the presentation of the Gracia Care Educational TV, Joyce said, “I’m looking forward na maka-avail po ang lahat ng local government units pero kailangan din po talaga ng pondo from the province and from the municipalities para makabili po ng TV kung saan mapapanood natin yung mga educational presentations”. The Gracia Telecommunications is under Narvacan Mayor Luis Chavit Singson’s proprietary led by his daughter Charissa Singson as the CEO. The venture aims to provide quality and accessible education to students throughout the Philippines through its schemes; free TV, radio and online platforms. The event was supported by the League of Municipalities of the Philippines with Mayor Singson as the president, Mayor Joyce as the vice president for internal affairs and Malungon Mayor Maria Theresa Constantino as the vice president for operations. The event was also graced by the Departments of Education and Interior and Local Government regional officials, and the rest of the mayors of Sarangani.
