Malapatan coop complying with Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program

MALAPATAN, Sarangani (June 16, 2021) – Essential and frontline workers will be the first to enjoy a free and comfortable ride in the initial trips of the first modernized Public Utility Vehicle (PUJ) of Malapatan Drivers Operators Transport Cooperative (MDOTC). This is the statement of Virgilia Bendulo, MDOTC chairperson, during the ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 14. The PUJ, costing P3 million, is the first among the 10 units to be acquired by the cooperative. Vice Mayor Jean Delos Santos (foreground) expressed her delight that despite the pandemic, the cooperative still worked out to comply with the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP). She claimed this as also a milestone of their municipality’s transport sector. The DOTr calls for the phasing-out of jeepneys, buses and other PUVs that are at least 15 years old and must be replaced with safer, more comfortable, and environmentally friendly alternatives.
