Senator Pacquiao, Rep. Pacquiao eye P2B Sarangani budget in 2020

KIAMBA, Sarangani (September 30, 2019) – Senator Emmanuel D. Pacquiao and younger brother, Sarangani lone district Rep. Rogelio D. Pacquiao, are eyeing the favorable reception and approval of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on the suggested P2,039,424,000 national funding for various infrastructure and development projects in Sarangani Province.

The new proposal in the National Expenditure Program (NEP) was passed through the joint efforts of the Senator and Congressman, same with last year's approved allocation of more or less P1.8 billion.

Congressman Pacquiao’s Chief of Staff, Atty. Ryan Ramos, said based on the NEP, the proposed budget will be used for various infrastructure projects that include the construction and improvement of access roads leading to tourism declared destinations; trades, industries and economic zones; and in support of national security.

A proposed security structure is the construction of P6 million-worth soldiers’ quarters inside the Malungon-based Philippine Army 1002nd Infantry Brigade compound.

Also included is a list of local-based projects such the construction of schools and multi-purpose buildings in the barangays, local roads and bridges, and water management facilities.

“Last year, in close coordination between Senator Manny Pacquiao and Ruel Pacquiao, we (Sarangani) received over a billion and a half that was utilized for the widening of roads and other infrastructure constructions. So we are now eyeing for an increase of about P200 million for 2020,” said Ramos, as he spoke before the League of Municipalities in the Philippines (Sarangani chapter) during its September 13 second regular meeting in Kiamba.

The LMP concurrent president, Malungon town Mayor Atty. Maria Theresa D. Constantino, speaking on behalf of the other six mayors of the comprising municipalities, gave gratitude and utmost acknowledgement to all the relentless efforts that both the congressman and senator have stressed in initiating the means of the much desired innovations in terms of progress and development in the different towns.

In a follow up interview, Jonathan G. Bantug, Sarangani District Engineer, said the budget deliberation in Congress was set to be divided during its actual implementation, with portions to be implemented by the DPWH regional office.

“Actually, this proposal is not yet final. As we expect some changes to happen amid its process. Maybe it will be lessened, or an additional for it will be allocated,” Bantug stated.

Meanwhile, Atty. Ramos also presented to the LMP the 14 House bills that were passed by Congressman Pacquiao in the House of Representatives for CY 2020. These include: HB01811, or an Act that declares barangay officials as regular government employees; HB01814, which is an Act that proposes the creation of the Municipality of Malandag in the province of Sarangani; HB01813, which is an Act of establishing a social protection program to assist indigent farmers and fisher-folk who have reached the retirement age without existing pension; HB03494, or the Act of converting the Municipality of Alabel into a component city to be known as the City of Alabel; and HB01808, that proposes the separation of Sitio Ladol from Barangay Poblacion in Alabel town.
